The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Geotechnical Consultant Engineer to join a well-established, international, multi-disciplinary consultancy at either Senior or Principal level, based in Leeds.
With over five decades of engineering excellence, this organisation delivers complex projects across transport, energy, water, buildings, renewables, and environmental development—supporting public, private, and institutional clients from early concept through to delivery and operation.
This role offers immediate involvement in a diverse and technically challenging project portfolio, with genuine long-term progression towards team leadership and strategic influence within a growing regional office.
Your Role
As a Senior or Principal Geotechnical Consultant Engineer, you will play a key technical and advisory role, contributing to high-value projects both in the UK and internationally. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, sharing expertise while helping shape best practice in geotechnical design and delivery.
This role is well suited to a technically strong engineer who enjoys responsibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to build and lead a team over time.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
- Lead and contribute to geotechnical design across a range of infrastructure and construction projects
- Produce and review designs for foundations, ground improvement, and earthworks
- Apply advanced geotechnical judgement to complex ground conditions
- Provide technical input across project stages, from feasibility through to construction support
Project & Client Engagement
- Work collaboratively with UK and international project teams
- Support client engagement through technical reporting and advisory input
- Contribute to high standards of quality, safety, and sustainability
Leadership & Development
- Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development
- Contribute to the growth of the Leeds office and future team expansion
- Support innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing
Technical Experience (Preferred)
- Experience in some or all of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Piled foundations in chalk and glacial till
- Offshore geotechnical design, including wind farms and ports
- Rail infrastructure (stations, depots, and track-related works)
- Embankments and cuttings
- Ground treatment and ground improvement solutions
- Offshore experience is beneficial but not essential.
Essential Requirements
- Approximately 5–10 years’ relevant geotechnical industry experience (as a guide to seniority)
- Degree background in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
- Strong technical capability with the confidence to work independently
- Aspiration and capability to develop and lead a team
