About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior or Principal Geotechnical Consultant Engineer to join a well-established, independent multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based in Leeds. With over five decades of expertise, the organisation delivers high-impact solutions across infrastructure, energy, environmental, and urban development projects both in the UK and internationally.

This role is ideal for a technically strong geotechnical engineer who enjoys complex problem-solving and is looking to take on greater responsibility, including the long-term opportunity to build and lead a team. You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects from day one, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and globally.

The consultancy supports flexible working, offering up to two days per week working from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality geotechnical input across a range of infrastructure projects from concept through detailed design
  • Lead and review the design of foundations and complex geotechnical structures
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring to junior engineers as the team grows
  • Contribute to project planning, risk management, and client liaison
  • Ensure designs comply with UK standards, health and safety legislation, and best practice guidance

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Typically 5–10 years’ professional experience in geotechnical or civil engineering (level dependent)

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards it
(Institution of Civil Engineers guidance

  • Strong ability to work independently while contributing to wider project teams
  • Demonstrated ambition to progress into technical leadership and people management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Technical Expertise (Preferred)

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Pile design in chalk and glacial till
  • Offshore geotechnical design, particularly for wind farms and port infrastructure
  • Rail projects including stations, depots, and associated earthworks
  • Design of embankments and cuttings
  • Ground improvement and ground treatment techniques
  • Offshore project exposure is beneficial but not essential.
