About the Role
The University of Sussex invites applications for a Research Fellow position in Digitalisation and Green Healthcare, as part of an MRC-funded Transdisciplinary Hub aimed at decarbonising healthcare systems.
This role focuses on Sub-Theme 4: Digital and Remote Care Pathways, exploring how digital innovation can drive more sustainable models of healthcare delivery.
The successful candidate will work within a collaborative environment led by Professor Mahmood Bhutta (Brighton and Sussex Medical School) and Professor Dimitra Petrakaki (University of Sussex Business School), contributing to high-impact research shaping the future of low-carbon, technology-enhanced healthcare.
 Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on sustainable digital health innovations, focusing on remote and hybrid care models.
- Evaluate the environmental and operational impact of digital transformation in healthcare delivery.
- Engage with healthcare policymakers, NHS partners, and academic networks to inform sustainable practice and innovation.
- Contribute to academic publications, policy briefs, and grant applications.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and stakeholder engagement sessions.
 About You
We are seeking a motivated and independent researcher who can bring both technical expertise and critical insight to this interdisciplinary project.
Essential Requirements:
- A completed (or near-complete) PhD in digital health, healthcare management, sustainability, data science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated research experience in digital or remote healthcare pathways.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Experience in policy engagement or advocacy aimed at real-world healthcare transformation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute to multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable Attributes:
- Knowledge of healthcare carbon accounting or digital health assessment frameworks.
- Experience in evaluating sustainability metrics in technology-driven health systems.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and responsible research practices.
