About the Role
The University of Aberdeen is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in Computing Science to contribute to teaching and research within the Aberdeen Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, a joint institute established with South China Normal University (SCNU).
The post holder will deliver teaching and research activities based at SCNU in Guangzhou, China, supporting the University’s transnational education partnership.
About the Institute
Established in September 2021, the Aberdeen Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence is a collaboration between the University of Aberdeen and SCNU. The Institute delivers three 4-year undergraduate programmes that closely mirror the content of the equivalent degrees offered in Aberdeen:
- BSc Computing Science
- BSc Artificial Intelligence
- BSc Business Management & Information Systems (delivered jointly with the University of Aberdeen Business School)
Students complete their studies entirely in China, with teaching provided jointly by staff from SCNU and the University of Aberdeen. Aberdeen faculty travel to China to deliver teaching as part of their role.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate programmes in Computing Science and related disciplines.
Undertake research that complements and enhances the University of Aberdeen’s existing research strengths in Computing Science.
Contribute to curriculum development and academic leadership within the Joint Institute.
Engage in administrative, pastoral, and outreach duties as appropriate to the role.
Essential Requirements
- A PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate level in English.
- A record (or strong potential) of high-quality research output.
- Willingness and ability to live and teach in China for extended periods.
Salary and Benefits
The successful candidate will be appointed at the appropriate point on Grade 7 (£46,735 – £55,755 per annum), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Visa Information
