About the Role
The Department of History at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint a fixed-term Assistant Professor in Modern History.
You will contribute to teaching and supervision across nineteenth- and twentieth-century history, delivering lectures, seminars, and dissertation supervision. You will also take part in assessment, marking, and student support.
You will join a dynamic and collegial department known for its innovative, interdisciplinary research and commitment to global and comparative approaches to historical study. The department ranked 4th in the UK for Research Impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF).
About You
You will hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in Modern History and bring expertise in one or more of the following areas (which are particularly desirable for this role):
- History of science
- History of emotions
- Global or connected histories
You will have:
- An emerging publication record appropriate to your career stage.
- Experience of teaching in the UK Higher Education sector.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A proven ability to support and engage students effectively.
Experience supervising undergraduate dissertations is desirable. You should also demonstrate a collaborative and collegial approach to working within a team-oriented academic environment.
