About the Role
The Department of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Reading seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Physical Geography to join our teaching and research team. This full-time, permanent post offers the opportunity to contribute to the BSc Human and Physical Geography Programme through high-quality teaching, fieldwork, and innovative research.
We welcome applicants with expertise in one or more areas of hydrology, climatology, biogeography, geomorphology, soil science, or geology. We are particularly interested in candidates applying remote sensing, GIS, numerical analysis, AI/machine learning, or numerical modelling in research.
The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in Physical Geography, methodological rigor, and the ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching, supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, computer practicals, and fieldwork across all levels of study.
- Supervise doctoral research students and support postgraduate research training.
- Develop high-quality research outputs and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Prepare competitive grant applications and secure research funding.
- Participate in outreach activities, enhancing public engagement with the Department’s research.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Department, School, and University to foster an inclusive and supportive research environment.
Candidate Profile
- Education: PhD or equivalent experience in Physical Geography or a related discipline.
- Research: Demonstrated research excellence with a record of publications.
- Funding: Experience in grant writing and ability to secure research funding.
- Teaching: Experience in undergraduate teaching and field-based instruction in Physical Geography.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in quantitative techniques, including GIS, remote sensing, numerical analysis, AI/machine learning, and numerical modelling.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and mentor students effectively.
