Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Professional Duties:
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to ensure seamless care pathways for patients with unknown primary cancers, from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up.
Independently manage your caseload, ensuring the highest standard of care for patients.
Provide comprehensive support to patients, their families, and carers throughout all stages of cancer care, including coordinating referrals to appropriate services.
Serve as a point of contact and ‘keyworker’ for Women’s Health patients, offering information and support at every stage of their cancer journey.
Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring they understand their diagnosis and treatment options, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care.
Coordinate treatment pathways between departments and care settings to maintain continuity of care.
Participate in Gynaecological Cancer outpatient clinics, including pre-clinic note preparation and triage.
Be an active member of the Gynaecological MDT, contributing to discussions about Women’s Health patients.
Foster networking and collaborative relationships with Women’s Health CNS colleagues within the London Cancer Network and UCH Cancer Centre.
Develop nurse-led clinics for Electronic Health Needs Assessments (EHNA) and post-treatment care for gynaecological oncology patients.
Support and assess inpatients in the Women’s Health Cancer pathway, collaborating with ward staff, consultants, and specialists for seamless communication and care.
Ensure that patients receive health needs assessments and psychological support, referring to allied health professionals as needed.
Maintain close relationships with Macmillan Palliative Care teams to ensure comprehensive care for patients and their families.
Ensure accurate documentation in all patients’ records, including the Trust’s electronic health system and cancer database.
Contribute to the National Cancer Peer Review process as an MDT member.
Provide cover for colleagues during leave and absences.
Manage your own caseload and schedule effectively, demonstrating exemplary time management skills.
Education & Training:
In partnership with the Lead Cancer Nurse, identify educational needs for staff and develop training programs accordingly.
Provide training for staff and professionals on the management of unknown primary cancers and their treatments.
Develop patient and staff education materials to enhance understanding and care.
Stay current on specialist knowledge in oncology and participate in continuous professional development.
Attend and contribute to regional and national conferences and educational events.
Research & Quality:
Participate in clinical audits to assess the effectiveness of services and ensure compliance with national and Trust standards.
Engage in research and audit activities related to cancer of unknown primary, disseminating findings to relevant stakeholders.
Contribute to the collection of data for the cancer registry and database.
Participate in patient satisfaction surveys to identify areas for service improvement and enhance the patient experience.
Management & Supervision:
Regularly review the Women’s Health service provision, working closely with the Lead Cancer Nurse and relevant MDT members to assess patient feedback and service development.
Manage risks within your area of practice and act as a senior nursing resource across multidisciplinary teams.
Prepare an annual report on the Women’s Health service, highlighting achievements, caseload statistics, and future goals.
Engage in service development plans and ensure resources are used effectively.
Participate in clinical supervision sessions and ensure service continuity during absences.
Act as a mentor for junior staff and support their development.
Maintain visibility and accessibility for patients, coordinating coverage during periods of absence.

Education & Qualifications:
Essential:
Postgraduate qualification relevant to the specialty.
Advanced assessment skills.
Mentorship qualification or equivalent.
Desirable:
Nurse prescribing qualification.
Experience:
Essential:
Experience in research and audit.
Proven ability to improve patient experience.
Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork and mentoring junior staff.
Experience in gynaecology/oncology.
Desirable:
Experience in running nurse-led clinics.
Skills & Knowledge:
Essential:
Comprehensive knowledge of gynaecological oncology pathways.
Change management experience.
Advanced problem-solving and assessment skills.
