About the Role

The University of Reading is seeking an exceptional academic leader to take on the role of Head of the School of Law, as we look to appoint a successor to the current postholder. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an established Professor or Associate Professor, combining academic excellence with a strong record of managerial and leadership experience.

The Head of School appointment is offered on a fixed-term basis for six years, while the accompanying professorial post is permanent.

This is a pivotal moment for the School and the University. Building on recent success in education, research, and global engagement, the new Head will help shape the School’s next phase of development. We are particularly interested in candidates who can strengthen the School’s contributions to environmental sustainability and leadership, a key component of the University’s overall strategy.

The role involves:

  • Providing academic and strategic leadership within the School
  • Enhancing research, teaching, and international partnerships
  • Contributing to the broader leadership of the University
  • Supporting an inclusive and forward-looking academic culture

About You

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Are Professors or Associate Professors with a strong academic and leadership track record
  • Are committed to collegial and inclusive leadership
  • Can articulate and implement a bold, future-focused vision for the School
  • Are passionate about sustainability and can align the School’s strengths with this University-wide priority

Live Information Session

The session will include an overview of the role and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions (anonymously if preferred).

Interviews

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview on Tuesday 1 July 2025. As part of the process, candidates will be asked to deliver a presentation outlining their vision and strategic plan for the School of Law, followed by a panel interview.
