Main Responsibilities:

Provide clinical leadership, ensuring high standards of patient care are delivered effectively and efficiently in line with the service’s philosophy.

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with local and national guidelines.

Serve as an Autonomous Practitioner in a haemodialysis setting, working within established protocols and guidelines.

Supervise and mentor pre/post-registration students and junior staff.

Act as Clinical Shift Leader, taking charge of the unit in the absence of the ward manager.

Anticipate and respond to the changing needs of patients and families.

Supervise junior and unregistered nurses in caring for chronically ill renal patients.

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.

Contribute to fostering a learning culture, promoting growth and development of nursing staff and students.

Complete required competencies and training to fully perform the role.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register.

Experience:

Substantial post-registration experience in a complex healthcare or acute NHS setting, including supervising and mentoring junior staff.

Professional/clinical knowledge, supplemented by specialist training and CPD.

Experience in practice-based supervision/assessment as per NMC standards for student supervision.

Experience mentoring undergraduate students.

Demonstrated leadership skills, including shift leadership, team coordination, and resource management.

Ability to lead change and support clinical developments.

Understanding of NHS policy and clinical governance.

Additional Skills:

Competence in expanded clinical practice.

Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, IT).

Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands.

Ability to handle complex and challenging clinical situations.

Enthusiastic, approachable, and flexible.

Ability to inspire and lead a team.

Willingness to work flexible shifts, including day/night duties and unsocial hours.
