About UCL Institute of Archaeology
The UCL Institute of Archaeology is globally recognised as a leading centre for research and teaching in archaeology and heritage. With over 60 academic staff conducting research across five continents, the department offers world-class facilities, including laboratories for archaeological science. The Institute excels in Islamic archaeology, supporting research and teaching across the Islamic Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia, as well as specialised studies in Islamic glass and metal artefacts. The UCL Islamic Archaeology Network hosts regular events, including the annual Islamic Archaeology Day.
Role Overview
We are seeking a full-time Associate Lecturer (Teaching) in Islamic Archaeology to:
Deliver teaching on core and optional modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Serve as personal tutor for undergraduate students.
Contribute to the profile and visibility of Islamic Archaeology at UCL.
Participate in departmental administration and academic support activities.
The role involves teaching, supervision, and skills training, including field archaeology, GIS, post-excavation analysis, and collection management.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and Master’s modules in Islamic archaeology and heritage.
- Contribute to core archaeology modules and skills training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Provide academic guidance and support as a personal tutor.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the department’s research and teaching profile.
- Support the organisation of events and workshops in Islamic Archaeology.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- PhD in Archaeology, Art History, or a related field with a focus on the Islamic world (pre-1800).
- Experience in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Ability to supervise and mentor students effectively.
- Skills to contribute to core modules and archaeology skills training.
- Strong communication, organisation, and collaborative abilities.
