We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join the University of Reading’s Finance Department. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Finance, this role is a key member of the Financial Planning and Strategy team. You will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality strategic financial information, forecasts, and support to senior leaders across the University.
This position requires a qualified finance professional with a proven track record of producing detailed financial business cases and leading investment appraisals. The successful candidate will support Heads of Directorate, Heads of School, and members of the University Executive Board on a wide range of strategic initiatives.
A strong understanding of university or complex public sector financial operations is desirable. You will be instrumental in forecasting and providing insightful financial reporting and management information to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Business Planning: Develop and support business cases, investment proposals, and financial models for key projects.
- Financial Leadership: Deliver professional, clear, and actionable financial information to senior stakeholders.
- Analysis & Reporting: Interpret complex data—both quantitative and qualitative—to advise on future actions.
- Strategic Oversight: Help formulate long-term financial strategies and oversee the annual budget and forecasting processes.
- Performance Monitoring: Analyse financial trends, identifying risks and opportunities proactively.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong working relationships across departments to drive financial success and shared understanding.
About You
You will bring:
- Professional accountancy qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience in strategic financial planning and business case development
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-finance audiences
- A collaborative approach and confidence working with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to challenge assumptions and contribute to sound financial decision-making
