Join the University of Reading, named the UK’s Sustainable University of the Year 2025 and host of the CIEEM Higher Education Programme of the Year (2024) for the MSc in Ecological Survey Skills with Placement. Our vibrant Biological Sciences team, strengthened by numerous recent appointments, draws on international expertise in applied ecology, phylogenetics, and zoology. The School of Biological Sciences is housed in state-of-the-art facilities, including the Health & Life Sciences building, which supports both our research and teaching efforts. Situated on a large, species-rich green campus, the School is closely connected with other academic units focused on biodiversity and climate change.

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished scientist or practitioner in the field of ecology, with expertise in the identification of animals and plants. Responsibilities will include contributing to research, including funding applications, teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and carrying out administrative duties in line with University expectations.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • A PhD or DPhil in a relevant discipline.
  • Proven track record in field ecology research and/or consultancy.
  • A strong commitment to teaching and fostering an inclusive academic environment.
