About the College/Department:
The College of Science and Engineering at the University of Derby consists of several key schools, including the School of Science, School of Computing, School of Sport and Exercise Science, and School of Engineering. We are proud to be at the heart of the city’s STEM sector, home to some of the world’s leading STEM companies and a region where STEM is integral to economic growth.
The School of Science is now seeking a Lecturer in Biomedical Science to contribute to the teaching and development of Biomedical and Forensic Science programs.

As a Lecturer in Biomedical Science, you will join a passionate academic community dedicated to delivering high-quality degree programs. You will teach across a range of subjects, contributing to the development and delivery of modules in areas such as cell biology, immunology, and biochemistry. Key Responsibilities:
Teach across a variety of subjects/modules within the Biomedical Science discipline for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Ensure module/program delivery complies with university quality standards and regulations.
Engage in the assessment process, including setting, marking, and moderating student work, while providing constructive feedback.
Contribute to the review and development of modules and programs, incorporating innovative teaching practices and strategies.
Take on leadership roles for specific modules and contribute to ongoing program development.
Engage in research, collaborating internally and externally, contributing to research culture and REF submissions.
Support students through personal tutoring and mentoring, providing pastoral care where necessary.
Contribute to student recruitment activities and maintain strong professional links for placements and industry collaborations.
Handle administrative duties such as admissions, timetabling, examinations, and progress assessments.
Essential Criteria:
A good honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent.
Fellowship of the Advanced HE (HEA) or a willingness to work towards it.
PhD (or near completion) in a relevant subject, or equivalent professional achievement.
Experience in higher education and the ability to use diverse teaching methods.
Experience in research and publishing in high-quality journals.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
Desirable Criteria:
A Master’s degree in a relevant subject.
Membership of a relevant professional body or working towards.
Experience in delivering high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
An established or developing research profile, nationally or internationally.
Experience in applying discipline expertise to generate income through consultancy or industry-based research.
