The role:

Licenced Aircraft Engineer

Our Engineering department is evolving to create a whole new universe of possibilities, including increased flexibility in aircraft type ratings. This implies that we will give you with all of the necessary training to certify our aircraft while you are in your leadership capacity.

A period of investment and expansion in our fleet, resulting in limitless prospects for our engineers. We offer a variety of aeroplanes that you can work on. A320, B777, B787, A350, and A380. We are expanding our fleet with additional A350s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the way.

You’ll quickly realise that no two days are the identical at BA. With 111 long-haul and 142 short-haul aircraft, the options are limitless. There are openings in both our line and hangar-based teams, with various shift patterns available. But, most importantly, we’ll give you complete ownership and trust to do the best job possible, boosting your confidence and enhancing your decision-making abilities with the help of a competent team of mechanics and technicians.

A new era in engineering maintenance has begun, and we will look to our licenced aviation engineers to assist us lead it. If you want to be a part of the solution, you’ve come to the correct spot.

You will deliver in two main areas:

Leadership

  • Manages maintenance tasks, including setting clear goals and expectations.
  • Develops and motivates your team to reach its full potential and scope for achieving departmental goals.
  • Ensures that team and individual members follow applicable company procedures, policies, legal, and regulatory obligations.
  • Responsible for successfully completing all assigned, planned, and ad hoc maintenance tasks. This will be accomplished through effective leadership, maintenance monitoring, and the efficient distribution of resources, equipment, and assets.
  • Provides direction for individual and team maintenance actions, assuring adherence to safety, company procedures, regulatory, and airmanship standards.
  • Enables and encourages successful communication.
  • Creates a culture of continual improvement in a manufacturing setting to promote unit performance and colleague growth.
  • Supports the creation of a high-performing team and culture.
  • Mentoring the emerging talent in our renowned apprenticeship programmes.

Technical expertise.

  • Responsible for maintaining qualification and authorization on all aircraft types, vehicles, and equipment relevant to the area.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental legislation, as well as housekeeping standards.
  • Conduct competency checks in accordance with the British Airways quality processes. Executes IT and documentary transactions as needed, making full use of technology.
  • Expected to expand one’s knowledge and skill set.

Who will you collaborate with?

  • Duty Shift Manager (line manager), Satellite Engineers, all Production grades, Ramp/Base Planning, Engineering Control Centres and Technical Support Group (Part M)

You’ll need:

  • An unrestricted CAA UK Part-66 Category B1 and/or B2 licence
  • For B1, have at least one type rating in the B1.1 category (turbofan or turboprop).
  • For B2, have at least one type rating in the B2 category (fixed wing or rotary).
  • Proven recent experience certifying aircraft, 6 months within the last two years.

You will be:

  • Your success will be a combination of technical expertise and leadership qualities.
  • Problem-solving and acting on your own initiative are vital so you can make timely and educated judgements with the capacity to bring together and analyse complex information.
  • The ability to comprehend technical documents and make fact-based decisions in a difficult operational environment is critical. Combine these qualities with an inventive, flexible, and adaptable approach.
  • Strong collaborative abilities are important when managing a team.
  • Strong prioritisation, planning, and organising will ensure that you can deliver the British Airways operation on time.

  • All of our type course training takes place at our dedicated technical training facility in Heathrow.
