JOB SUMMARY
Two full-time positions are available within the Good Hope Pharmacy Department and AMU.
1 full-time position available within the Heartlands Pharmacy Department and MAU.
An amazing growth opportunity has emerged for passionate and driven individuals to learn specific skills in a clinical setting. We are searching for three enthusiastic clinical pharmacy technicians to join our varied team and assist the Ward Based Clinical Pharmacy Technician service, rotating between shifts of 07:56-16:00 and 10:56-19:00.
The successful candidates will be committed to improving patient care and providing a high-quality pharmacy service to our patients and the Trust.
Successful candidates will have:
- At least one year of post-qualification experience in a hospital setting.
- Hold a nationally acknowledged pharmacy technician qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Accredited accuracy-checking qualification
- A flexible approach to satisfy the service needs.
Previous experience demonstrating a strong understanding of ward-based services would be beneficial.
We may accept applicants who do not meet all of the key requirements listed in the personal specification for certain positions.
Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required
Provide near patient medicine management services as part of our ward-based team seven days a week, ensuring that our patients receive cost-effective and efficient care during their stay. You will join the ward’s multidisciplinary team, assisting with medication reconciliation at clerking, discharge planning, TTO medicine supply, and patient counselling. Additional responsibilities include assessing patients’ own drugs, conducting audits, ordering medication, distributing it, and checking supplies. On a rotating basis, employees will be required to work extra hours, including weekends, bank holidays, and late evenings.

Qualifications
Essential
Must include the following:
- Professional registration with the GPC.
- Accredited for Dispensing Accuracy. West Midlands scheme or an equal.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
- Certified Checking Technician (National Framework) or equivalent.
Add one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
OR
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills.
OR
Equivalent as determined by the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable
- Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework).
Experience
Essential
- Pre-qualification in pharmacy requires two years of work experience.
- Currently working as a band 4 pharmacy technician / equivalent or higher with post-qualification experience in an acute setting.
- The capacity to demonstrate a comparable degree of knowledge and appropriate practical experience for the position
- Significant experience in the pharmacy setting.
- Experience with the particular function for the area of responsibility.
- Experience organising different levels of workers and their workload.
- Experienced in following policies and procedures
- Significant experience in the hospital pharmacy setting
- Understanding the Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
- Workplace health and safety, including COSHH
- Understanding of dispensing, stock control, supply, and information technology systems and operations.
- Knowledge of Code of Practice/Customer Care
- Knowledge about drugs, side effects, and where to get more information
- Knowledge of methods, regulations, and procedures related to the job
- Understands the requirement to provide a cost-effective service and the essential work procedures to reduce waste.
Desirable
- Experience as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician or in a similar position.
- Deputising for senior personnel, coordinating daily work flow, and situational staff management.
- Experience establishing new working habits or procedures.
- Participate in staff training and mentorship
- Understanding the ward environment
