It’s never been a more exciting time to join Wirral Council. We have high goals to reach, and in order to fulfil all of our promises to our inhabitants, we need people who are eager to produce the best for our communities and demonstrate how they can #BeTheDifference. Our aim is to provide the best future possible for our residents, as defined by the community prosperity we foster and supported by our exceptional people and services. If you want to #BeTheDifference and be at the centre of our change and development journey, this could be the perfect job for you.
We provide great training and development options for Social Workers through local partnerships, nationally supported education initiatives, and role-specific commissioned learning courses. We have assisted NQSWs in completing their ASYE; non-registered social care staff have earned a social work degree through an apprenticeship programme while working with us; and experienced social workers have trained as Practice Educators to share their knowledge and experience with the next generation of social workers. We are delighted to acknowledge that many of our senior management team members have developed their skills and advanced their careers in Adult Social Care at Wirral Council.

Wirral employs the 3 Conversations approach (3C’s) throughout all Adult Social Care teams. The model’s ethos is to uncover each individual’s skills and aspirations in order to maximise independence and well-being. If you are a qualified social worker seeking for a profession that allows you to make a difference, we have chances for you in Adult Social Care for Social Workers and Experienced Social Workers:
Working with Integrated Community Coordination Teams (ICCTs) involves conducting strengths-based Care Act assessments and person-centred support planning for service users aged 18 and up. The work is multifaceted, and the goal is to promote the well-being of adults with care and support needs in order to consistently improve their results while also establishing long-term connections with their community.
Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub The MASH team is a well-established Social Work team that helps vulnerable individuals who are experiencing or at danger of abuse or neglect. MASH’s role is to screen and fulfil Safeguarding S42 queries, collaborating closely with the individual and our partner agency.
Experienced Social Workers are needed to work with a small team of Best Interest Assessors (BIA) in the Council’s Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoL) program. The BIA will conduct DoLS assessments on individuals who are or may be deprived of their liberty. The BIA will also assist with the duty function and provide advice and direction to other BIAs in Adult Social Care as needed.
CICC is a rehabilitation service that offers social admissions to complement Arrowe Park Hospital. This is a multi-agency team that collaborates with an individual to determine the patient’s discharge destination. Team aims are to guarantee that safety and care needs are fulfilled successfully, while keeping in mind that each individual is a specialist in their own life.
Requirements:
- Social Work England registration
- Relevant social work qualifications
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development

Because the Council holds a visa sponsorship licence, it can provide certificates of sponsorship to non-UK citizens applying for this position via the skilled-worker route. To be eligible for this, applicants must be registered with Social Work England and require sponsorship.
Please keep in mind that the certificate of sponsorship is not a visa; in order to work in the UK, an individual must apply for and acquire a visa.
