JOB SUMMARY

 

The University regards the award-winning Careers and Employability Team as an invaluable partner in teaching, learning, and student achievement. We are currently recruiting for a Head of Careers Consultancy to lead the Careers Consultancy Team in providing highly effective, impactful career education, information, and guidance. The Head of Careers Consultancy, as a member of the management team, will provide knowledge and expertise to shaping the Careers and Employability Team’s strategic direction as well as informing institutional strategies for delivering employability.

The primary responsibilities of the position include:

  • Leading the Careers Consultancy Team to success by defining ambitious team and individual goals in accordance with overall Careers priorities, and assisting and inspiring others to accomplish them.
  • Leading the development of a centrally provided suite of career development workshops, 1:1 support, online learning materials, and projects, ensuring high-quality planning and implementation within the constraints of available resources and reflecting industry best practices.
  • Providing strategic leadership for school and department-based career and employability services, as well as assisting Careers Consultants in developing and implementing school and department-level initiatives.
  • Overseeing a portfolio of significant theme-based initiatives within the team, developing clear objectives with lead Careers Consultants, deciding on assessment and impact measures, tracking progress, and assigning resources. Project themes include equality, diversity, and inclusion, as well as international and digital perspectives.
  • Horizon scanning is used to identify new initiatives in the workplace as well as chances to improve existing services or build collaborative projects within and outside of the institution.

The perfect candidate would be:

  • A strategic thinker, capable of balancing short-term priorities with a longer-term perspective;
  • Skilled and competent in inspiring and managing teams of experienced professionals.
  • Forward-thinking with a desire to innovate and refresh, capable of adjusting practice to meet institutional aims;
  • A sophisticated communicator, both written and oral, who can influence and create connections with a diverse spectrum of people at various levels of authority.
  • Able to demonstrate a proven record of delivering services/support and projects at scale against agreed-upon outcomes.
  • Confident in the management, analysis, and interpretation of data to inform service delivery and strategic decisions;
  • Capable of demonstrating understanding of careers and employability theories, as well as issues and trends in higher education careers work, and experience applying them to inform service and project design and delivery.
