The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated research associate to study on RNA-based gene regulation systems in the mammalian germline. Specifically, we hope to build on recent advances in understanding the process of piRNA-directed transposon methylation and the role of RNA modification in germ cell development. The laboratory’s main purpose is to investigate these pathways both in vivo and via biochemical and molecular biology techniques.

Your abilities and traits for success:

  • Experience in DNA cloning and general molecular biology.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture and transfection.
  • Experience with RNA purification and QC.
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
  • This role requires a relevant level of qualifications.
  • Desirable working understanding of the germline.
  • Relevant experience in molecular biology or biochemistry.


You will be part of the O’Carroll group, which is based at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Regenerative Medicine ( and the Welcome Centre for Cell Biology. A working knowledge of the germline is beneficial, but not required. An overview of the laboratory is available at
