What to Expect
In this shift leadership position, you will have the unique chance to lead a highly competent, dynamic maintenance team situated in Solihull.
You will contribute to JLR’s long-term success by heading a multi-faceted shift maintenance team in a newly renovated body construction production facility with modern manufacturing assets.
The manufacturing asset footprint comprises several advanced technologies, such as automated multi-axis robots, automated welding and joining equipment, laser joining systems, automated conveyors, complicated tooling and fixturing, and lifting equipment, to name a few.
You will take great pride in being a part of Solihull’s maintenance operations team, providing engineering maintenance support to maximise production efficiencies by maintaining all manufacturing assets and ancillary equipment within the manufacturing facility.
You will lead your team in adhering to standards and processes, ensuring that the highest quality requirements are met. You will also lead problem-solving activities to ensure long-term gains in business performance.

Key Accountability and Responsibilities
Your primary accountability and obligations include:
- Lead your shift on a daily basis to maintain a safe and efficient production performance within the framework of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, and Environment.
- Ensure that all health and safety metrics are fulfilled, including detecting safety hazards and risks, implementing remedial action, and ensuring that the staff receives appropriate training.
- Champion departmental 5S efforts, ensuring that workplace organisation targets are met to standard.
- To meet operational aims, support and sustain area staffing while staying within operational restrictions.
- Lead your team to provide the needed Technical Availability (TA).
- Review and analyse performance data, and take appropriate actions to enhance TA.
- Lead your team during reactive breakdown scenarios and allow them to offer optimum uptime utilising safe operating practices.
- Champion 5S and workplace organisation initiatives, validating efficacy against standards.
- Champion the implementation of a consistent maintenance approach throughout the plant.
- Develop continuous improvement strategies while enhancing maintenance procedures.
- Support the training and development of maintenance professionals by delivering behavioural, safety, technical, and process training programmes.
What You’ll Need
Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety procedures to keep your team and others safe.
- Previous maintenance leadership expertise earned in a similar job in a maintenance operations setting in manufacturing.
- Capable of leading a large team in a fast-paced industrial setting.
- Proven expertise in lean manufacturing processes such as TPM, 5S, Kaizen, and PPS (Practical Problem Solving)
- Capable of communicating clearly and effectively across functions at various levels.
- A “can do” approach with a people-focused, customer-driven mindset.
- Operational ability to prioritise your resources where they are most needed.
