The Role at a Glance
This position focuses on equipping undergraduate medical students with the practical clinical skills required for safe progression through their training. As a Clinical Skills Practitioner, you will design and deliver hands-on teaching sessions, assess competence, and provide supportive feedback to help learners build confidence in real-world procedures.
Working alongside the undergraduate education team, you’ll also support patient involvement in medical education — ensuring ethical recruitment, consent, and management of volunteer participation.
What You’ll Be Doing
Clinical Skills Education
- Plan and deliver structured practical skills teaching
- Create and update educational resources
- Teach procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation, injections, vital sign monitoring, and IV setup
- Assess student competence and sign off progression milestones
Student Support & Assessment
- Provide real-time coaching and feedback
- Guide students toward safe, evidence-based practice
- Ensure learning aligns with professional training standards
Patient & Programme Coordination
- Recruit and consent volunteer patients for teaching sessions
- Maintain the education volunteer database
- Work with academic colleagues to support programme development
Educational Development
- Contribute to ongoing research and improvement in clinical education
- Participate in evaluation and quality enhancement initiatives

About You
Essential Qualifications
- Registered adult/general nurse (UK registration required)
- Evidence of post-registration academic or professional development
- Recognised mentorship qualification
Experience & Knowledge
- Strong post-registration clinical experience
- Understanding of procedural skills and safe clinical practice
- Experience delivering training to individuals or groups
Desirable
- Clinical assessment qualification
- Teaching or education certification
- Familiarity with undergraduate medical education
- You will be a confident communicator, organised educator, and supportive mentor who values patient-centred learning.
