About the Role

The University of Leeds invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the NERC-funded SeaSTORE project, focusing on the effects of seabed trawling on marine sediment biogeochemistry and carbon storage on the UK continental shelf.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Conduct and coordinate seagoing fieldwork, lab experiments, and sample analyses.
  • Develop and apply data modelling approaches to interpret marine sediment geochemistry.
  • Investigate how organic carbon decomposition responds to environmental pressures.
  • Contribute to research influencing policy and governance regarding UK marine environments.
  • This position may be performed on-campus or in a hybrid working format, with flexibility considered to support work-life balance.

Candidate Profile

  • We are seeking an environmental scientist with:
  • Expertise in marine sediment biogeochemistry and carbon cycling.
  • Experience in field sampling, laboratory experiments, and analytical techniques.
  • Strong skills in data analysis, interpretation, and scientific reporting.
  • Ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams and communicate findings to both academic and policy audiences.
  • Desirable: Experience with marine policy impact, seabed ecosystems, and UK regulatory frameworks.
