Role Description

You will join the Department of History and contribute to teaching and supervision for nineteenth- and twentieth-century modern history modules. Your duties will include delivering lectures and seminars, supervising undergraduate dissertations, supporting students, engaging in student assessment and marking, and participating actively in the life of a collegial, interdisciplinary department.

The History Department prioritises global and comparative approaches and is embedded within a research-active School of Media, Arts & Humanities which was ranked 4th in the UK for impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

  • A completed PhD in a field of Modern History.
  • Teaching experience in the UK higher education sector (or equivalent) with an emerging record of research output.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following fields is highly desirable: the history of science, the history of emotions, global/connected history.

  • Proven ability to teach undergraduate modules, supervise dissertations and support student learning.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work productively within a collaborative, friendly departmental team.
  • Demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in academic practice.

Please note: only candidates able to perform their work in the UK will be eligible. The role is eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship when appointed at Grade 7.5 (for full-time roles) under tradeable points options.
