About Our School

The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy & Resources (BSEER) at University College London is a leading global centre for teaching and research on sustainability transformations. Within it, the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources (ISR) focuses on the sustainable use of the world’s resources. Our mission is to generate evidence, deliver expertise and provide training that helps society respond to climate change and support sustainable transitions for both people and planet.

Role Overview

We are looking for an accomplished academic to join us as a Lecturer in Business, Sustainability and Society. You will:

Bring substantive expertise in business sustainability, and in how consumers and/or citizens engage with sustainable practices.

Lead one or more taught modules in our MSc Business and Sustainability (BaS) programme—and contribute to other teaching and curriculum developments as required.

Play a leadership role in the MSc programme team, helping shape and deliver its vision, linking business, environment and society.

Engage with cross‑disciplinary collaboration across SSR/BEAMS, working with businesses, policy makers, civil society and academic stakeholders.

Undertake research and publication in your field of specialism and contribute to the School’s and Institute’s teaching, departmental and engagement activities.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • A PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g., business sustainability, consumer behaviour, resource management, environmental policy).
  • A demonstrable track record of research excellence and peer‑reviewed publications in high‑quality journals on business sustainability and/or consumer/citizen roles.
  • Experience designing and delivering postgraduate taught modules on sustainability in business, consumer behaviour, society or related topics.
  • Evidence of successful engagement with teams or stakeholders across sectors (business, policy, civil society).
  • Ability to collaborate across different disciplines, work in a dynamic academic environment, and contribute to the broader teaching and research mission of the Institute.

Desirable:

  • Experience in developing curriculum or shaping new teaching initiatives in sustainability, business or society.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching innovation, inclusive education and supporting student diversity.
  • Evidence of external engagement (industry, policy, non‐government organisations) in your domain.

What We Offer

As well as an intellectually stimulating academic environment, our benefits include:

  • 41 days’ leave per year (comprising 27 annual leave days, 8 UK bank holidays, and 6 Institute closure days).
  • The option to purchase up to 5 additional leave days per annum.
  • Membership of the defined benefit pension scheme (Career Average Revalued Earnings, CARE).
  • Cycle‑to‑work scheme and a season‑ticket loan facility.
  • Support for relocation (for eligible posts), immigration loan assistance, on‑site nursery, and on‑site gym.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave, and access to an Employee Assistance Programme and discounted medical insurance.
